Your Logo, One of Your Company’s Biggest Assets

The creation of a good business logo is a critical component of a company’s development. A good logo can quickly become one of the company’s biggest assets, and gives consumers a visual image to tie to their favorite companies. Research has proven time and time again that good logos help customers recognize companies, thus increasing the amount of sales that will result.

There are several components which comprise a good logo. First and most importantly, the design of the logo should be consistent with the company’s purpose. For instance, a law firm will most likely want to avoid cartoonish graphics or bright colors and instead opt for a subtle, professional logo. A skateboard company, on the other hand, will attract more customers with a flashy, vibrantly colored logo. Keeping in line with the company’s purpose is undoubtedly the most important thing to remember when designing a business logo.

Another key element to a good logo is uniqueness. Designing a logo that is unique from other logos will help customers remember your logo and relate to it when they see it. This helps a company build brand loyalty with their customers. If you make it easy for customers to find and recognize your product, they are far more likely to purchase it.

One element that can make or break a business logo is its legibility. Customers need to be able to recognize what your logo stands for. If you use words in your logo, you must make sure that they are easily readable, in a strong color, and legible font. Being able to read words on your logo is entirely necessary for potential customers. Furthermore, if you choose to add graphics to your logo, make sure they are also legible and that their meaning can be understood. Don’t include a picture of an object that has absolutely nothing to do with your company.

A good piece of advice from professionals of all industries is to keep your logo simple while maintaining its uniqueness. Some of the most successful companies have very simple logos (think about Apple or GM). The simplicity of their logos makes these companies easily recognizable among a crowd of competitors.

Finally, it is important that your logo appeals to customers. Before you go ahead and print off ten thousand pages of letterhead with your new logo on it, ask a few people to give you their honest opinion. Don’t be afraid to even create two or three completely different logos and ask your colleagues which one they like best. That way, you can make sure that your logo will go over well with your potential customers. All in all, make sure that your logo receives the investment and time necessary to create an image that represents your business for the years to come.
