Should We Have Stopped At Kindergarten?

August 26, 2011 by  Filed under: Management

My son Spencer recently graduated from Kindergarten and during the ceremony I quietly reflected on his past year of school and how much he’d grown and matured. I realized that Kindergarten has already started to establish the basic fundamentals for his future. Amazingly, he has been able to remind me of some things we should all be incorporating into our professional lives, especially as business owners.

Listen and pay attention. By taking careful notes and listening to your customer, you will be more informed and capable of performing in a way that will meet or exceed their expectations- the first time.

Be at your desk and ready to work on time. Dependability is very important to customers. They want to know that you are available and accessible if anything ever arises.

Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody. We all make mistakes, but how we handle those mistakes is what people will remember. Don’t make excuses for yourself- own the mistake and make sure you offer a solution. Your customer will appreciate your honesty.

Put things back where you found them. Stay organized! It will do wonders if you have issues with time-management.

And my personal favorite: Work as a team. No one person is able to do everything themselves. Relying on the skills and ideas of others will do nothing but strengthen the business and relationships you have already established. The foundation of my business is built on teamwork. As a virtual assistant, my customers rely on me to produce quality results and represent them in a professional manner. They appreciate that I am part of their team and understand that my main goal will always be to help them grow and succeed in their industry.

It is truly vital for any business to incorporate and implement these ways of providing great customer service into your routine. Small as they may seem, the difference it can make is key not only for keeping your current clients satisfied, but the referrals they will send your way will continue to enhance your reputation and elevate your bottom line.

If you remain conscious and vigilant of your integrity level in all items you handle for your clients and for your own business, there’s no doubt your clients and colleagues will notice. Success will be yours along with a prosperous and rewarding career. Honestly, is there anything better than experiencing complete satisfaction and fulfillment for a job well done?
