Postcards Can Be an Effective Business Promotional Tool

August 23, 2011 by  Filed under: Marketing

Every firm needs a clever marketing campaign to position their business and their products effectively in the hope that they will gain as much attention and business as possible. In the current economic climate it is all too easy to suggest that there is a lack of money for such campaigns, but really, can a business afford not to invest in essential marketing?

Finding that cheaper alternative

It might be expensive to run a nationwide advertising campaign on television or radio but there are other ways to gain attention to your business. You could find ways to cheaply and economically let your market know who you are and what you do.

Business Postcards are cheap to produce and can be very effective

With cheap but effective branding you can put your company name out there and increase your sales without spending too much on your marketing department and their aims and objectives. You could send out postcards to your clients, for instance. They might be a conservative way of getting attention and they may be a little old-fashioned to some but they do work and people tend to keep hold of them. The good thing is that even if they are a little traditional, they can still give you a competitive advantage because lots of larger businesses – with whom you will be competing – will have stopped using them by now and will be looking at much grander marketing tools instead.

How can they help you

There are four main ways in which a postcard can help you. The first is that they inform your potential customers who you are and tell them a little, although not in too much boring detail, about what you do. They can be posted out for your customers to pick up and most of them will be pinned up in the kitchen or somewhere around the house where they can be accessed when needed. If you add in a call to action, however, by providing a discount with the postcard, then you are likely to see an increase in business more quickly, and ensure that your customers don’t forget you.

The second way in which a postcard can help is by offering your customers the chance to purchase products in a sale. Capture their attention with your postcard and then perhaps follow your posting with a follow-up call to courteously check that your customers received your card, compounding your message even further!

Sending out multiple mailings and looking for an impact on your sales will allow you to monitor which kind of postcards work and which don’t. Because of their inexpensiveness you are able to test the water in this way.

Postcards do not put customers off in the same way that long and arduous reams of text might. They are short and snappy yet have enough room to mention a little about you and your products or services. You can flood your card with images and branding without taking away from the point of it.

Can you do without them?

Postcards have great potential, so can you afford to ignore the benefits they may have for you?
