Menu Printing Tips – How Takeout Menus Could Save Your Restaurant

December 22, 2010 by  Filed under: Marketing

A lot of pizza operators believe that they will flourish in the business simply by making great food and listing their food and prices on a piece of paper.

This concept is flawed, and more often than not, will fail.

In this highly competitive age, other restaurants are constantly coming up with unique advertising and promotions to attract customers. If you wish to make your pizzeria into a profitable business, then you need to follow certain guidelines when designing, printing, and distributing your menus.

First, try to design a menu that appears mouthwatering and inviting. It should also have an extremely attractive look in terms of branding and color scheme. The design of your menu will help to create an appealing picture of your pizzeria in the minds of the pizza lovers which quickly translates into higher sales.

Second, you need to make sure that the font is easily readable. If your flyers are easy to read, then it will help to draw more customers and “convenience purchases.” When ordering takeout, nobody wants to spend half an hour trying to find the food they want and figure out how to order. Keep it clear, descriptive, and simple.

Third, make your pizza flyers and menus very colorful. Ensure that the background and the pictures on the menu are eye-catching and at least the same quality used by your competitors (or better!). Do not ever print your flyers black and white as customers are instantly turned-off by picture-less price lists. Even though it will help you to save money, black and white printing will reduce your sales and hurt your image long-term. Everything you do must be optimized to attract customers and encourage purchases.

Another great tip is to attach coupons and special offers when menu printing. If you do, make sure that customers know it! For example, on the cover of your menu use the line:

New Menu, Lower Prices!

See Valuable Coupons Inside!

Include a unique company mascot in your menu if possible – or at least some form of logo. This will have an extremely valuable long-term effect and help you to stick out amongst your competitors.

Lastly, try to give new and innovative names to your pizzas as well as other to other food items mentioned in your menu. This will help to grab your customers’ attention more easily and distinguish your restaurant. It’s more enjoyable to eat “The Super 3-Meat Pizza” than a large pizza with 3 toppings.

By following these tips when menu printing, you can increase your sales at a considerable rate.
