Business Succession – Try These 2 Engaging Strategies to Sort the Most Critical Financial Focus
Maybe this scenario is you. The organization is struggling. Losses are growing, sales are down and customers are dissatisfied. The organization looks chaotic. Leaders speak in tones of despair. You’ve been brought on board to help solve the problems and turn the business around. Your skills and experience is in strategic goals and planning, but you’ve a lot of experience as a branch manager focusing on sales and customer service. Your are now accountable to find the fix and soon. Strategic is a nice thought, but the crisis requires you to work on short term solutions and stop the flow or red ink.
Now is the time for hands on leadership. If leaders display despair, employees and customers may feel the same. Your assessment may be wrong, you may be missing something. The cost of being wrong is too high. Intuitively you believe you must do your own research on what is happening.
Try these 2 steps.
1. Think differently. Try new approaches. Assume you could be wrong and dig deeper. You will begin to feel your own courage, confidence and clarity as you move through this process and gain clarity. Be careful to engage and not dismiss what you’re learning. Your ego may wish to protect you and perhaps dismiss what you are learning. At this point, your ego may be working to protect you. Trust that your personal assessment and engagement will provide new clarity.
2. Sort through what you’re learning. The process of sorting should be based on your intended outcome. You will want to list your top 3 outcomes you want to learn at the conclusion of your research on the financial state of the organization. Sort for each of the top 3. There may be many more learning’s, but the key skill of the trans formative leader is the ability to first define truth. Personal research will provide clarity for consistent focus over the next 12 months.
The goal in doing your own research is to find truth. This is you’re leadership opportunity, you own the problem. You will own the decisions and future results.
